It is the period of the first Mental War. Earth's defense forces are crumbling under the hordes of the vicious Mental. He managed to break the will of many nations by destroying the ancient shrines of the domestic people. A fearless EDF general, Sam 'Serious' Stone, is leading the resistance from the battlecruiser 'BC Saratoga' in a desperate attempt to save the galaxy.

Key Features at Early Access Launch:

  • VR and chill – Play as Sam 'Serious' Stone in VR! See the galaxy, meet interesting aliens – and frag 'em all. Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope (a.k.a. SSVR) is the perfect VR game! No singing, no dancing. Just shooting and humming to the energizing and moody tunes of your guns blazing.
  • All aboard! – Select your mission on the command deck of the batllecruiser Saratoga and get ready to drop down to planet's surface; the action starts immediately!
  • The bigger they are – Battle over 2 different planets with multiple levels, ending with 2 different bosses. The bigger they are, the harder they fall, as Sam wades his way through the invading horde using a vast number of guns and power-ups, including his mighty pirate cannon.
  • Guns. Lots of guns! - Sam must pick the right weapon for the job – some enemies are tougher, or just different and more resilient to certain type of damage than others – and defend the local populace.
  • Mental's hordes – Hordes of enemies, new and old, are pouring over the planets, all across the universe. Sam has already defeated some of them in battle, and knows them all too well. Others will rear their big, ugly head for the first time. Sam will not discriminate.
  • Upgrades and Power-ups – Fully equipped armory is at Sam's disposal aboard the battlecruiser 'Saratoga'. Upgrade your gear between the missions.
  • Seriously fun – Saving the universe can be a daunting and tedious task, but here's Sam to save the day; it's more fun when he does it, the way he does it. It's (mostly) by shooting aliens in the face.
  • Early Access – we're working around the clock to bring SSVR to fans as soon as we can. So we decided to pull a Death Star – the game will be operational and available this Summer (and hopefully won't explode when released on Early Access), achieving it's full potential hopefully by end of the year.

E3 2016 is still underway, but all of the big announcements have been made – and it has been the biggest year for virtual reality yet. From huge reveals of VR-exclusive games, to new hardware announcements, to price points and retail dates, the expo this year has seen developers big and small go all-in on VR. Here, then, is a summary of everything you need to know that was revealed at the show.

Oculus

Oculus has announced that over 30 Oculus Touch-compatible games will be released for the motion control hardware this year. This includes existing VR games that will be introducing Oculus Touch support, as well as all-new Oculus Touch-exclusive games – some of which were revealed along with the announcement. You can see their trailers below.

SteamVR

In addition to demoing the HTC Vive’s mixed reality streaming setup, a couple of major Vive-exclusive game announcements were made by Bethesda. Both Fallout 4 and Doom would be receiving VR versions, and both were playable on the show floor.

PlayStation VR

Sony finally announced the price and release date of the PlayStation VR hardware. It will be available worldwide on October 13 for US$399 / AU$549. Sony also announced a new gun-style first-person shooter controller designed for PlayStation VR, called the PlayStation VR Aim Controller. Over 50 games will be available for PlayStation VR by the year’s end – some of which were announced with trailers, below.

Microsoft announced that it is entering the VR space with “Project Scorpio”, its codename for a new, more powerful Xbox console that will support “high-fidelity VR” and launch in 2017. Beyond that, not much is known – least of which whether or not Project Scorpio’s headset would be a new one, or allow support for an existing one such as the Oculus Rift.

Razer

OSVR Hacker Dev Kit

Razer has announced the next version of its Open Source Virtual Reality headset, the Hacker Development Kit 2. This new hardware brings the specs up to compete with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but at a significantly lower price point. Owners of the first Hacker Development Kit will be eligible to purchase just the display hardware as an upgrade.

Last, but not least...

In multiplatform VR news, a new Serious Sam game was announced, and it’s a VR-exclusive. Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope will be up on Steam Early Access soon, and it looks to maintain the series’ traditionally high-octane action gameplay, but with a new VR twist.
