Valve and HTC have finally announced all of the key details surrounding the release of the HTC Vive Consumer Edition. The first, and most sought after detail, is the price: US$799. Though initial speculation predicted a price of anything up to $999, the final price tag is still a significant reality check for those looking to get into room scale VR.
At an event during GDC, Sony finally announced the price and release date of its PlayStation VR headset. The unit will be available in October this year and will ship with headset, headphones, cables, and an additional, small box which aids processing. Unfortunately not included in the package is the required PlayStation Camera, which retails for US$60.
In an interview with CNBC, Oculus CEO and co-founder Brendan Iribe has revealed that the Oculus Rift will have a retail presence in April. This won't just mean the Rift will be available in stores for purchase - instead, Oculus plans to allow shoppers to try out the Rift in its retail locations before considering a purchase.
