“Lost Chambers of Giza” is a game project that revolves around exploring the cave system under the great pyramid of Giza. The game will consist of multiple levels, each set within a different chamber or section on the caves of the Great Pyramid. Players will progress through the game by solving the hieroglyph puzzles and overcoming obstacles and traps in order to reveal the pyramid's secrets.

Our first devlog presenting our gameplay loop, death scenarios and puzzle types.

Today we will have a look and talk about our gameplay loop and our puzzle types.

In these two diagrams we can see firstly our gameplay loop regarding the level itself and then we get a better look at what happens with each puzzle type.

The death scenarios:

Death by the spikes level trap – In the levels there will be some spike traps on the ground strategically placed as a way to add to the challenge of completing the level itself and some of the puzzles.

This feature works with a timer, the spikes go in and out of the ground in a set time, if the spike is deployed while the player is on the spike area the player will take damage, the player will also take damage by walking in an already deployed spike trap.

Spike retraction speed can differ throughout the levels, increased speed will have a much-reduced reaction time for the player to safely make his way across.

Death by the wall arrows level trap – This feature is similar to the last one referred, but instead of being on the ground it’s on the wall of the level.

The feature works with a sensor, while the player is in front in a direct straight line with one of these traps the trap will shoot an arrow in a straight line, if the player doesn’t avoid the projectile he will get hit.

Arrow projectile speed can change in different levels, the higher the speed of the projectile the higher the reaction time of the player has to be to avoid it, this will be increased in higher levels in order to increase difficulty.

Death by incorrect guess in the puzzle – Incorrect puzzle guesses and solutions will have consequences to the player's HP, so be careful during the solving portion of the challenge.

The puzzle types:

- Order Puzzle

This is the puzzle of type “Order”, once the player reaches the hieroglyphs on the wall and inspects it the interface pops up only to provide him with information about the order in which to press the pressure plates on the map.

Now the player will have to cross the spikes in order to press each pressure plate accordingly and finish the puzzle.

- Memory Puzzle

This is the puzzle of type “Memory”,with this puzzle type there will be 2 hieroglyph murals in the level, one is only to provide him with information of the correct symbol sequence and the other receives input in the form of buttons with the shape of said symbols, the player has to press them and input the sequence he saw previously.

In this example we can see how important it is for the player to correctly memorize all of the symbols in the first go, otherwise there will be the need to traverse the map again.

Let’s also not forget that a wrong combination would also deal damage to the player, a potential low hp player after going through the entire level.
