Xash3D is the powerful independent open-sourced 3D-engine, aimed for high compatibility with GoldSource engine formats (maps, models, textures, sounds, entities etc.), but with the intention to be an advanced platform for modmaking or game development. Technically it has been built from a scratch, using as totally original ideas, as some ideas from other 3D-engines. Xash3D overcomes obsolete GoldSource engine's limits and provides for you a new quality of gaming experience and modmaking capabilities, as extended map, model, texture & sound formats with higher limits, possibility to implement custom renderers with dynamic lighting and other modern features. Xash3D is the easy-to-use base to play existing Half-Life mods & create something new, impossible with GoldSource. Years of development & testing allowed to make from Xash3D a perfect mix of high compatibility with common GoldSource standards & high openness to creative modmaking ideas.

Description

Meet a new state of the famous thrilling first person shooter - PARANOIA is released now as a stand-alone game, using a power of Xash3D Engine. You can now just download it, install, and play - without a necessity to perform any additional actions or have any additional resources. This release was created with a permission from BuZZeR, the main developer of PARANOIA. It doesn't contain any gameplay changes in comparsion with original PARANOIA mod, but it's now stand-alone and also can use all advantages and conveniences of Xash3D Engine. For example, it will be a bit simplier now to create easy installable mappacks or mods for PARANOIA without a need to include with them any duplicated files from initial game or copy their files over it. The offered installer contains two versions of the game localization - Russian and English. You also will be able to install some more suitable graphic files for wide-screen monitors (with a screen aspect 16:9, or close to this) if you own such one.

Played the game. It is quite nice, but I think it contains too less monsters and is too short. The rest is pure awesomness

In fact there are no significant visual differences (except of some new game menu features), just a bit more smooth and clear rendering and a bit far objects' rendering distance. Advanced rendering features will be brought with an upcoming release of PARANOIA 2: Savior. It's expected, that after this people will be able to play first PARANOIA with most of those new features too. At least this was in initial plans of PARANOIA 2 developers.

Does All The Console Commands Work in This Standalone Version? Like Impulse 101 & Weapon Cheats? Cause Cry of Fear Didn’t and I Was Disappointed.

I managed to get the game to run off the Steam Goldsrc engine, but it's unstable....

There is no need to try to run this version with GoldSrc, you already have the initial mod for this...

For those who have a problem of regular crashes in certain places of the game, here is the additional troubleshooting guide.

It's known issue with MP3 music in the mod (caused by using of the outdated FMod.dll library, unstable on newer versions of Windows). Generally crashes are random, and if you saved your game before the situation, you can continue to play normally after a game restart. Most likely, the crash happens when FMod has to switch MP3 playback from one track to another (usually caused by a script triggering or by a level change).

If the crash is constant for you, try to remove all MP3s from "paranoia\sound\music" (or rename the folder). It helps to solve the problem (by the price of playing without background music).

Alternative solution - right before you enter the place where the game crashes for you, type into console: stopmp3. This command stops the playback of a current MP3 track and can help to prevent the conflict with loading of a next track.

And 3rd party solution - unofficial fan-made patch: Moddb.com It has some changes made to FMod behaviour. But it's on your own risk, I'm not sure that everything else is working 100% properly.

You can also try to update fmod.dll with version 3.7.5.0 from here:
Dll-files.com
Just download zip and extract file to paranoia\cl_dlls
It can be more stable, than v3.7.1.0 used in mod.

P. S. I also suggest you to update the engine files, xash.dll & menu.dll, with files from build 4344: Moddb.com This should help with other possible issues.

What do you mean? This version already uses latest Xash3D build, so what you want to be updated? If you need engine files themself, you can always find them here:

api dll is what makes this mod special. unlike most hl1 mods, this mod not only puts a folder in the haldlife folder, it ads a file too called opengl so that it would use a different opengl version

Delete video.cfg file from "paranoia" folder and set a proper screen resolution that suits your display. Don't set those resolutions which are not supported by your monitor. Also don't forget to restart the game before you begin to play after changing the resolution.

And what i have to do when there is no 1600x900 option?

Reply Good karma Bad karma0 votes
Qwertyus Author

The support of this resolution has been added in more recent releases of Xash3D. So you have to update the engine files, xash.dll & menu.dll in your game folder, with files from newer builds, for example, from build 4344: Moddb.com This should also help with some other possible issues. The alternative solution is try to switch for FWGS version of the engine instead. It has a wide support of different screen resolutions. Github.com Read the info below and check Assets on Releases page to download FWGS engine files. But you will need to create a custom shortcut for FWGS' xash3d.exe with -game paranoia parameter to launch the mod.

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

You don't need to have HL to play The Game Edition. But the support of OpenGL is essential.

You can try to remove opengl32.dll from the mod's folder (paranoia) end set to 0 (instead of 1) this parameter in opengl.cfg file:
setgl gl_extensions "1"

I love this versiom amd I think it's a great idea. But I have some issues with it, for instance I can't use machineguns on the ground and the game in some scenes lags for me. Like after the shooting range when the alarm goes off the game just stops and the last sounds played repeat in a loop.
This continues to happen in driving scene after the military base.

Those crashes are always random. Unfortunately, nothing can be done with them without code's rewriting... Just load your last save and continue.

Actually its may be because of the fmod.dll on paranoia folder. Because mine are same, but when picked fmod.dll from hl mod blackguard its perfectly fine.

I can´t ajust the res... It´s the same problem i had also with Half Life time ago. The windowed screen is in the left upper corner and i can´t change the inputs. This happened after chagning my resolution the fisrt time. Unistalled several times, installed in both modes (4:3 and 16:9 which would fit my monitor) Then I can´t find any user.ltx or something like that to delete before installing again, so really dunno how to fix this ****... Anyone knows how to change res otherwise? I´m no pro pc guy, so be patient with me guys =)

Open "paranoia" folder inside the main game folder (where you have installed the game) and delete video.cfg file. Then launch the game and choose the right resolution for your monitor. To play in fullscreen mode uncheck "Run in window" flag in Video options. Don't forget to restart the game after changing the resolution before you begin to play.

The random crashes are f*cking annoying ! it's even worse than Cry Of Fear, but I know it's because the game is not supported by Windows 8

If you can't install Paranoia standalone you can try installing the HL version.

Crashes are the same for mod and for standalone version. It's initial Paranoia's problem, not an engine issue.

I... i don't get this - With Xash3D Engine it's absolutely safe now to use a modified opengl32.dll, which is required for new PARANOIA's visual effects (with Steam you might be VAC banned for this). IF YOU MIGHT BE VAC BANNED THEN IT ISN'T ''ABSOLUTELY SAFE''

Reply Good karma Bad karma-3 votes
Qwertyus Author
Qwertyus

So, where is the problem for you? The Game Edition is not intended to be installed in Steam version of Half-Life (as original PARANOIA mod). It's a stand-alone game based on Xash3D engine that doesn't use Steam or VAC anyhow. So you will NOT be banned.
