The studio formed by Rick and Morty’s co-creator has revealed its first game

In August, Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and former Epic executive producer Tanya Watson announced the formation of a new VR-exclusive game development studio, Squanchtendo. The studio is dedicated to creating VR games, both longer immersive experiences and “shorter, crazier” games.

Today, Squanchtendo has announced its debut VR game, and it seems like it falls into the latter category. Called “Accounting”, the game is a first-person physics-based interaction sim for the HTC Vive with a cartoonish, odd skin.

The official description reads:

“Numbers. What do they mean? The modern field of Accountancy is a serious and honorable profession. Many human beings have spent their lives toiling over the hard science of numbers. Thousands have died so that we may get to the level of understanding that we have today. Thousands have died. However, as Accountants and Numbersmiths embraced the abacus and the calculator, today we must embrace the latest technological advancement. Virtual Reality.”

The above reveal trailer gives little answers as to what the game actually is – instead, it raises a whole load of questions. Namely, what the hell is going on? Interestingly, Squanchtendo isn’t the only developer behind accounting. The team is working with Crows Crows Crows, a group formed recently that includes William Pugh, designer of The Stanley Parable and the free Steam game Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger And The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist.

The team is no stranger to first-person comedy, then – so with their expertise and Roiland’s dark sense of humour, Accounting could be a wholly unique and disturbing VR experience. Much like Crows Crows Crows’ first game, Accounting will launch for free. It will be available on Steam later this month.
