Description
A Sci-Fi FPS that sends the player to a war between good and evil. Experience hordes of monsters, a gloomy moon base setting, mighty weapons, intense action and a lot of fun in VR. Dead Moon Story: It is the year 2393 ... You are an archaeologist. On your way back from a mission on Mars, you made a forced landing on Moon Phobos and found the forgotten outpost “Stickney 2”, which was abandoned 70 years ago. While trying to find a way to leave the moon alive, you find yourself fighting against massive waves of monsters there. The bloodthirstiness of the monsters is everywhere, whether you are in the abandoned space station or on the moon’s surface. About this game:The concept of the game was developed exclusively for Virtual Reality. DEAD MOON is available on Steam and Oculus Store. The game captures an advanced combination of movement techniques with intuitive controls. Items can be touched, used, or destroyed for an even more intense feeling during the game. There are a lot of weapon types and a lot of different opponents. Each opponent has its own AI behaviour and its own unique fighting skills. Experience the fascinating moonscape and explore a dilapidated moon base with a lot of secret hideouts, impregnable hordes of opponents, and a sinister Sci-Fi setting.
History
1) What makes DEAD MOON – Revenge on Phobos special?
The gaming environment creates an extraordinary atmosphere. The moon station Stickney 2 has a gloomy vibe to it and makes you feel as if you actually are in an old, abandoned space station. Then there are the hordes of monsters, and fast battles with a great variety of weapons. Some elements are exaggerated, of course, such as the final opponent. All these taken together is what makes DEAD MOON very special.
2) Which is your favourite game element or location in DEAD MOON, and why?
Emerging from a dark passage into an outside area to fight your way through masses of monsters like a Space Marine. Also, entering the maps of the giant final bosses has to be one of my favourites.
3) Why did you decide to create DEAD MOON?
We had not found a VR version of any game of this genre. We wanted to create an action-filled, apocalyptic game. We drew inspiration from our 25 years of gaming experience. Back then, in 1993, our dream was playing a VR version of a game like DOOM. Then the VFX1 Glasses came out but since we were only students, we were not able to afford them. There were no controllers back then, let alone the display and tracking technology.
4) What was your inspiration for this game?
It is heavily influenced by the fast gameplay and the action of Doom (1993). However, there were other inspirations; The atmosphere of Dead Space was another thing that inspired us, as was the design of the planets and the amazing locations of Mass Effect.
5) What kind of gamers will enjoy playing DEAD MOON?
You should be into a lot of monster action, and should like the apocalyptic feel and the creepy atmospheree, as well as science-fiction themed games.
6) Could you summarize the storyline of DEAD MOON?
It is quite a simple narrative, really. You crash on the moon Phobos and have to find a way out of the space station Stickney 2. All the while, you have to survive the hordes of monsters that keep coming after you. The focus is on a fun gaming experience. We had initially considered to tell a story about humankind running out of resources etc., and to let our hologram „Anni“ act as a narrator; however, we then decided to go back to what was essential to us: Virtual Reality, action, monsters, horror, blood.
7) Where can people buy DEAD MOON – Revenge on Phobos?
It is currently sold on Steam and Oculus as version 1.1. However, we would be happy if other shops, such as, Good old Games, etc. would also like to stock DEAD MOON.
10) If you had to highlight some of the special technical features, which ones would it be?
Mainly our locomotion system, the interaction of the gamer with the gaming environment, and the high-resolution structures. To quote one of the games testers: „I love games where I can see what I have achieved.“
12) What is the next step in the development of DEAD MOON?
Debugging and optimizing. In addition, we would like more maps, more opponents, and even more weapons.
