Nix was originally part of the Off The Map competition in conjunction with The British library and Crytek. The competetion, hosted by Gamecity, was to create a Gothic game based on on a map provided by the British library, we chose Fonthill abbey and tweaked it to be underwater (to try and mitigate nausea) Nix ended up winning the competition this article explains the contest pretty well. We created this game in our second year of university so it is unpolished and a bit buggy but we hope you'll enjoy it : )

Install instructions:

Oculus Rift (DK1) & controller strongly recommended (game is fully playable without)

Download and unzip Nix gameOpen either bin32 or bin64
Open GameSDK and launch @ui_Nix

Note: Do not run the game on low settings it causes issues with fog which makes the game unplayable, please run on medium or higher.

Rift instructions:

Make sure rift is switched on and your screen is set to duplicate mode.

At game launch change the graphics settings to fullscreen mode (you will need to this or the rift will not work) then in game press either select on an xbox controller or - if you're using keyboard.

Note: If you're having issues getting the game to open try opening through bin32 version instead.

Hi IndieDb!

We recently created our page here, and in addition to the download on our blog, will be making Nix available to download from IndieDb as well.

An important note we would like to remind anyone who plays our game is that Nix was designed as an installation piece for the British Library, and as such was created to meet the specifications of a select few computers. This means that we're finding that Nix doesn't run (i.e. crashes) on lots of PCs, specifically those with newer Nvidia graphics cards. Our best bet at the moment is that the cards don't agree with the old engine version we had to use to get our Rift plugin to work.

We are working to resolve the issue, but If anyone tries Nix and has any ideas or solutions please don't hesitate to get in touch with us via a comment or email.

So thanks for checking us out, apologies if it crashes for you, but if you do download, please let us know either way!
