After years of 3D modelling, my focus has shifted to learning to program in C++ for UE4. I am overly excited to report that it is going well for me & I'm feeling extremely confident that in the near future, I will be able to deliver a prototype, all on my own.
The many delays in the past have been the result of unreliable coders, who inflated their abilities to join my team, only to let me down. Hindsight, I should have started coding sooner, but on the bright side, these disappointing experiences were a valuable lesson. I may have lost time, but I haven't lost my determination.
I have a discord server setup for those interested: Discord.gg
Update April 10th:
So I'm well passed the basics & have been using C++ directly in UE4, with some minor Blueprint usage.
Right now I'm just focusing primarily on C++. I will make sure to learn Blueprint thoroughly once I'm far enough in with C++. I'm moving at a comfortable pace, which fortunately has been rather quick. I'm roughly 1/3 into my courses & I may be ready to begin coding for Pirates in as little as 3 weeks.
We've been busy this week getting as much of the core mechanics for Pirates done as we can manage.
In the 1990s, I have fond memories of The Secret of Monkey Island. It introduced me to the awesome genre/theme that is 18th century Piracy. By the time...
In 2011 I decided to start this project. Before that I was into mapping and modding on Source engine. When I first had an interest in game development...
Status of the project, upcoming updates, new media, and available position on the team as artist.
Are you still working on this?
This looks really really cool!!!
I just found your job posting and I gotta say that sounds really ambitious! How are you going to do the multiplayer? Have you done multiplayer games before?
I bought one example project for Unity first person shooter, but when I tried to get it working I had no luck :D That's why I've done singleplayer games only, though mp game would be really cool.
Unreal's standard networking. It is fine for projects like this.
I'm not doing an MMO.
Im still tracking this after a lot of time actually :) Keep going guys!
