When our friends at Red Queen told us they are running a hackathon for video game companion apps (online helpers like damage calculators, interactive maps, and gameplay analysis tools) we had to jump on board with mod.io and include video game mods in the mix.
Mod Support Challenge
We'd like to see a game try and integrate mod.io support at the event. Our API, SDK and some engine plugins are ready to be put to the test. The top team that gets closest to having mod.io integration running in-game in 29hours will win a $1k USD prize from us (provided they are committed to completing the work and deploying mod.io support in the 30 days following the end of the event). Helpful steps to get started are:
- Add your game to our private test environment
- Decide how you want your game to communicate with the mod.io API
- Talk directly to the API
- Use the C/C++ SDK
- Use an engine plugin (we've got basic Unity, Unreal and HAXE/OpenFL/Kha/awe6 available but they are all a work in progress)
- Chat with our team on Discord if you need help
- Best implementation wins $1k USD
- Good luck!
Hackathon
The focus of the hackathon will be players using the Red Queen Platform to gain access to video game data and art assets to bring their ideas to life (think modding game data). A number of games have signed up and will be offering early access to their SDKs and APIs. There will be great prizes, free food, cool SWAG, and a cryptocurrency giveaway.
