People Cu3ed Announced!

We’re trying something different in VR.

Whitway Studios is a new company, and with a very small team of people who are perhaps just inexperienced enough to be trying something a little crazy when it comes to VR gaming. People Cu3ed is the result of this.

'Don't forget to squeeze your balls!' - we're proud to be different!

It’s a weird hybrid mix of VR Action that in testing is really getting the blood pumping in the players, and Puzzles that make your brain hurt (a little too much sometimes – we are toning that down!!). Gone is the common trope of putting the headset on and embodying just another human in a different place – this game will rob you of your arms, legs, and all other appendages…

Results from testing have varied from people snatching our poor old Vive headset between them, determined to use some trick they think they’ve figured out by watching our unique ‘Social Strategic View’ from the outside, through to key information in the tutorial being missed by testers due to the propensity to laugh along with our addictive characters as they crack jokes throughout. We’ve also an innovative system for those with a couple of monitors and PC VR, where the first monitor will display the traditional ‘headset eye view’, and the second our ‘social strategic view’ which is proving to be a winner for groups of friends who want to ‘help’ their mate inside by pointing out the solution to the puzzle the player is stuck on… or not if they are really good ‘friends’!

To be honest – we weren’t going to push this game – it was a crazy prototype we were playing along with to see how far we could simplify the human face down to and still feel empathy – but then all this happened in testing, and so we decided to make a game of it!

And what a game it is shaping up to be.

We have fully animated and scripted (with ‘quality’ British voice acting throughout) a tutorial that is capable of bringing even the least experienced gamers into VR (let’s just say one of many of the groups of testers we had were from a ‘non-traditional’ gaming age group…). We’ve 40 levels of increasing difficulty (on a curve we are still working on!) which we are estimating will take around 20 hours to conquer, and some brilliant characters that we just want to keep doing more with (which is a problem – as we just need to focus on getting the game complete for now!!)

People Cu3ed Campers

We’ve tested on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Windows MR and through Steam all looks good so far. We’ve also designed the game from the ground up to be as friendly to a low powered system as possible so we can port to mobile VR formats like the Oculus Go and Vive Focus as well. Release is planned for November 2018 – and we’re really excited to let our baby out to play!

We are planning a freely available demo of the game for release in September 2018, so please watch this space for details – we love feedback, and we also love seeing people enjoy the game, which is pretty much exclusively what our testers have been doing – far too much fun and not enough hard work actually! :)

If you have any questions – please get in touch with us, we want to share and talk about this game as we’ve seen so many people have so much fun in a medium (VR) that can sometimes be quite a lonely experience.
