Medium size urban map best suited for up to 8x8 matches on Capture The Flag, Keep The Flag and DeathMatch or Team DeathMatch modes. Created with both the original AssaultCube and its AssaultCube Reloaded mod in mind.
AC_Neighborhood
"Since i finally got around to making a ModDB account, might as well post this map here,
it's my first attempt at map making and editing for a game"
AC_Neighborhood is a map focused on large open spaces with key cover spots and almost symmetric design, so both teams have a very similar path layout. It was designed to emphasize risk-reward, with higher-value items and weapons being placed in more dangerous places.
Map details and points of interest
Akimbo pistols is by far the strongest weapon in the game, so if a player wants to use it, they'll have to get inside the building in the center of the map, run upstairs and jump out to get them, which will put them in the enemy team's sights. There's one akimbo on each side of the building, so realistically both teams can have a player with akimbo at the same time.
The center building has a X-shaped layout on its ground floor, and has enough cover to nearly isolate players inside from those that are outside.
On the outside, players from both teams can use boxes and other clutter objects as cover, which is very helpful given that the surrounding roads are completely unprotected.
Each team has its own buildings, and one on each side has windows that can be seen and shot through
The center building's top floor is both a great place to be, and a terrible one at the same time. This is because while it gives you a good sight of the enemy player's side with reasonable cover, it can also expose you to all of them if you can't traverse fast enough.
How to use
Just extract the zip into the root of your AssaultCube or AssaultCube Reloaded installation and you should be good to go. Where the annoyance begins is when you decide to play it, so i'll provide a guide for both AC and ACR:
For AssaultCube:
- Forget the menu, you won't get singleplayer working for custom maps at all through it, so after starting the game, type "/mode 7" (Bot Team Deathmatch) or "/mode 8" (Bot Deathmatch)
- Followed by "/map ac_neighborhood"
- Then "/addnbot N CLA good" and "/addnbot N RVSF good" (N is the amount of bots on each team, i recommend a max of 8 on each)
- And done!
For AssaultCube Reloaded:
- After starting the game, you can use the menu (fancy that).
- Follow these steps: Singleplayer -> Load Map -> (select the mode you want, CTF, KTF and TDM are supported) -> *set the mutators you want* and select map -> scroll al the way down to "show all maps" -> "ac_neighborhood"
- You're now in the map and all that's left is to add bots, so: (ESC to bring up the menu) Singleplayer -> Bot Control -> Configure the amount of bots in total and hit "Automatically balance bots"
- Done!
Enjoy!
