Seems a little odd that GIFs have made such a resurgence since PNGs basically made them extinct 10 years ago, but sharing big animated images appears to be all the rage. To celebrate our new poorly compressed low quality animated GIF image overlords - we now support animated images! Here are a few samples from assorted games that have put this functionality to use:
and a few more cogs:
Oh and to make it easy to upload we've doubled the size of images allowed. Excited to see what gets shared!
Yessss... now if only the interwebz widely adopted the .mng file format.
Or .apng!
what about webm

Awesome work boss!
And lemma too !
I love you guys, thanks for the GIFs!
Looks great! "Doubled the size of images allowed" Make it easier for us, many thanks!
YYAAAAAAYYYY!!!!
Your profile pic is very fit to your comment :D
Well done LOL
Could you add gfycat.com to the allowed iframe urls for videos?
Ideally we want you hosting your images on your profile pages, why do you want to embed an iframe for an image, when we supply the same function on every page?
As a note if you have uploaded animated gifs in the past, the thumbnails will not show the animated image, you need to re upload the image overwriting the old upload to get the thumbnails to animate.
Autoplaying animated shorts of mp4 for posts, bit like gifs but smaller and with better quality. (E.g. atm you can embed vine; but they have to be 480x480 which is a really odd size)
Example uses: Indiedb.com
And: Indiedb.com
I'm sure we can add a feature for this (autoplay video shorts).
Ill see what we can do about an iframe in the mean time :)
Thank you
Autoplay & loop with forced muting :)
For info if you used gfycat.com the message when saving is

Autoplay is terrible, I HATE pages with a lot of autoplaying videos. If I want to see the videos, I will press play, one at a time, it isn't a lot of work. (and I doubt anyone can see 6 videos at the same time, we can't even put them all on screen at the same time)
You guys gotta keep in mind that not everyone has a beast computer, some of us can't even play the majority of games/mods we track here.
So, if I'm allowed to speak for this minority, remove autoplay, I'm completely capable of pressing play on the videos, it's not that exhausting. xD
Agreed, its also why its taken so long for us to embrace the .gif
We want to accommodate for all users connections, this is why animated images / vines are not forced & always up to the developer to choose how to present their game.
IMO Gifs sit between vines / autoplay webm, they load on almost any device and a 4mb limit is pretty small so should keep load times under control.
Gifs aren't much of a problem, only if a page is full of them. The only problem I can see (that I mentioned on another comment below), is that if all of the images in the front page are gifs, it might potentially get heavy on some systems (I have no idea if it will). Having the front page of the site heavy to some people would be terrible, that's not a game/mod's page, it's the front page of ModDB.
My main problem is with autoplaying videos, it doesn't make sense to have 10 autoplaying videos in the same article (Like the Deep Space Settlement's Recap news), I opened that page, with no other tab open, and it ate 100% of my CPU.
I don't see the difficulty with pressing play on the videos when I go see them, after reading the paragraphs that explains what is in it, and I don't think anyone is capable of watching all of those 10 videos at the same time.
One of my laptops, AMD E450 @ 1.65ghz and Radeon 6320m can barely handle a page full of gifs.
I agree with this - autoplaying video is a bad idea. It's not just CPU, it's the unexpected explosion in sound especially when you've opened a mod in a new tab. Please make this an option at the very least.
And that the entire page reloads, causing videos to start running all over again when you're just trying to go to the next page of comments on a mod is very annoying. Please, please make this optional.
I think your view is so correct.i hate pages with lots of autoplaying videos, too.
Learn 2webm you ******* cavedwellers it's 2014 for ***** sake
2webm? Never heard of it. This cave-dweller will investigate. I got one for you too "Respect". You go look that up.
scared me on the front page
jesus
webm
Very good !
This is great! Thanks!
Can you please add an option to disable animated gifs on the frontpage? It's really a nuisance if all damned news images start to blink like on a playground. Some started already using gifs and it's very disturbing.
I agree. As I said in a reply to a comment above, not everyone has a beast computer (I've seen people complaining about pages full of gifs around the internet, so it's a significant number.).
I counted 21 'Latest Articles' today in the front page, I don't know if it would be heavy if they all used gifs, seeing as the images are small, but it may be.
I like gifs, and videos (about my other comment above), but there is a point that having a lot of gifs or autoplaying videos on the same page is too much, or even disturbing to some people, as Dragonlord said.
Sorry about the two big comments, but I feel I should say this, as I'm sure I'm not the only person that has these problems. (I would not mind it if I had a better computer, but even then I know there would be people in my place)
Agreed, also, when browsing off of my none to fast phone, having gifs on front pages will make a rather slow experience even slower.
looking at past image history, GIFs make up less than 1% of images. If it does appear it is overused, we will investigate disabling certain GIFs
good news!
More space is good news always.
Great news! thanks
PRAISE THE GIFS. \o/
I love the passive aggressive tone in this post. Love it. Shows character in bending to popular demand, at least. We all love .gifs!
This is going to slow down Moddb quite a bit.. I love gifs, but it's so intense on ones machine sometimes.
Excelent. Many thanks. But what will you do for older machines ? Mod DB will lag on low-spec's pc's
As long as you dont mean potatoes by low-spec PCs, then I think you should be fine.
Good news.
now only repair reply system.
It's nice to see updates here on ModDB! :)
Awesome update :)
Cool!I hope the next update which will be very soon is to be able to track your posts all over moddb. It is so difficult to have to try to search\find where I have posted in the past here. :(
The search engine isn't so hot and as a result I hardly use it.
Thanks.
You can track your comments via your personal profile?
The notification system did never work since it has been added. I've not receive one single notification about a reply to a comment or stuff I've posted since the system has been introduced in the first place. You can check your comments on your profile but this only shows "your comments" but not if somebody replied to them or somebody posted a reply to some media you posted.
Thanks.Just saw that feature\option.Not what I was expecting but yay I can check\track my comments! :D
