What is wildman?
Wild man is a single-player / Cooperative Action RPG/RTS Hybrid that focuses on territorial Conquest and character progression, Destroying rival strongholds with your army and packing skulls.
Where can I find the Kick starter?
Why are they not doing a RTS?
They would if they could. But as it stands it would cost 5 to 6 million dollars to finish kings and castles.
How ever they have not cross it off. By Backing the wild man kick starter you get to support a company that you love and you will get to see kings and castles in the near future!

I dont understand, why you are here? Go away from here, here is a indie devs not big fat studios, with millions of dollars on they pokets!
Wouldn't a "big fat studio with millions of dollars" using no publisher mean that it's going "indie"? Which is short for independant.
If anything, I'm glad to see a studio break free from publishers.
Nothing's wrong with publishers. Epic, Valve, Crytek all use publishers and nobody here refuses to use their free mod SDK's or engines.
its not about free tool.
But free tools are great to make Indie games. ;)

For your culture.
"Go away from here, here is a indie devs not big fat studios, with millions of dollars on they pokets"
You made my day! :p
troll detected
What an argument...
Mine are :
• GPG is not a big fat studios (about 15 employees).
• GPG has not millions of dollars on they pockets.
Did you see their pockets?
Do you work in GPG now ?
Your arguments is trolling
You don't have any argument at all and you say I'm trolling?
Actualy you trolling because you are fanboy. Fanboy is not an argument.
This not because I'm countering each of your statements with interviews etc. that I'm a fanboy. It's arguing, something you don't seem to understand.
But I'm now conviced that there is no point arguing with you so I'm off with your troll. ^^
Have a good day sir.
Save my time boy and go to mom.
I work at GPG and I can confirm that we don't have millions of dollars, or a huge gigantic team. Check out our videos, I think you'll be quite surprised :)
I like how you're too feeble minded to come up with insults so you throw the slur "troll" at people who don't agree with you. You're the ******* pinnacle of internet stupidity and common ignorance. A ******* generation of 12yearold thrown into the dust and left with an IQ level of 2 digits. Jesus ******* christ Nerd culture/"meemeeees" ruined the ******* world.
I guess I should have uploaded some of the Interviews. With Chris Roberts and Chris Taylor on why they choose the Crowd funding model over the Publisher model.
I will do that right away to clarify.
BTW - Sorry for my bad grammer and spelling I am just getting up.
No publishers do mean nothing, philosophy of indie development is in small team , with creative and not usual people , who made gameplay in games and arts not ordinary, brave, and very interesting, example "Notch with his Mine Craft" or "Team Meat whith his MeatboY".
Gas Powered Games is professional studio with big portfolio, big state of proffesional developers, programmers, artist and etc. They are not indie. The End.
You are so narrow-minded... and misinformed. It's frightening.
No im not.
You are. Or prove me I'm wrong.
Maybe they did belong to the 'establishment' before, but I would say that nowadays they are indie. Heck, I think there are even indie developers with more employees than Gas Powered Games at the moment.
Mojang has more employees than Gas powered games at the moment not including customer support they have 16 or so devs.
Indie, short for independant. Independent video game development is the process of creating video games without the financial support of a video game publisher. So how does a publisher mean nothing?
You can't draw a line and say "that's indie and that's not" based on your own little "philosophy".
No publisher? Then it's indie. A publisher, then it's not indie.
Now, all have to say they are indie< because its fashionably.
@Naqser : So I would say that GPG is now Indie, because they don't rely on publishers anymore. ^^
IIRC They were not able to find a publisher for Wildman, just as with Kings&Castles (their other project). In the minds of people, being indie is about striving to be independent, rather than being independent because you can't find a publisher, out of necessity. They are indie now, thanks to kickstarter.
In addition to that, it seems that Chris Taylor is fed up with the old publisher model, as he explains in interviews, his company never earns money from the sales of its games, and Microsoft saved them with the AoEO contract (but they didn't earned royalties either). So he wants to go away from that and become independant.
If you don't earn money from your business, what's the point of such business? Call it hobby then.
So you saying
- "Chris Taylor never worked on his games to make money"
Ok, he worked for the sake of making games, sounds legit to me.
But then, you saying
- "Chris Taylor is fed up with the old publisher model, as he explains in interviews, his company never earns money from the sales of its games"... "So he wants to go away from that and become independent"
So he is trying to brake that vicious circle of evil screwing him over publishers, in order to make money?
Making money is alright, don't see anything wrong in it. We all have to pay our bills and be rewarded for our work.
Don't get me wrong, but in my opinion, those two statements you made are slightly contradicting one another.
Anyway ,Taylor says that he'll finish this game in his basement even if the kickstarter ends up not as he wants to.

No publisher = Indie (Indie is short for Independent)
Which Gas Powered games is trying to become. They Do not like the Publisher model which takes all the money from the game when it hits stores and they have to pay the publisher the money back (Borrowed money.)
As for Mojang - They are indie they have no publisher or big financial backer.
As for team Meat they are also indie - No publisher or financial backer.
I will post more about this in a update.
I agree on the fact that they are indie but I do have my thoughts on the fact that well established (million dollar) companies take the spotlight from the underdogs here on indiedb.
If all pro-indies would come here, us hobby designers might as well find a new home.
Exacly
That's right, any team that has $$ doesn't deserve to be on this site. People here need to be poor developers who can't scrape together any kind of money for their projects and must stay that way. If they aren't then they're betraying the spirit of indie gaming and making an indie title!
They must beg for cash, live off moldy bread and dirty water, release unpopular title after unpopular title!
Of course if one of those people wins a big contest for a free AAA engine, gets a breakout hit, begs for large sums on "funding sites", or doesn't LOOK like they have a lot of money, then that's ok! :/
Sarcasm ?
That's not what I said...
I know, just ask.
Mojang is a pro indie as far as I am aware. Why are they on moddb still?
Game Development is a Business and at the end of the day you need to make money. no money = No rent or food.
I don't think so. The mindset is completely different; so is the cost. Not every pro-indie studio will be able to raise the necessary funding all the time, which could lead to many nasty cuts. Look at it this way: If an independent developers without money to work on the game full-time has problems, imagine what happens with a huge group of proficient people in the same situation? It's not pretty... So as with every Indie: wish them good luck with their game, watch it, study it, support it if you like it. And if it does get completed: play it and have fun!
As for the spotlight, it keeps shifting all the time anyway, and there are too many factors to determine which game will get it and when. Sometimes players want something crispy-looking, sometimes they want something cheap and fun. At the end of the day when someone makes something worthwhile people will eventually play it one way or another. Besides, if free open-source projects like "0AD" or "Unvanquished" can have such a strong impact, then certainly titles made by small teams of enthusiastic hobbyist developers can as well. It will require more ingenuity and time, but since when was that a problem?
If you would have watched some of the video updates and the live streams, this is a company that hired at least 30% of its current staff that we know about with no development experience prior to working with them. The hardest thing for a person to do to get a job in the industry is to break in. Chris Taylor is a guy who has put his money where his mouth is and hired several people out of the goodness and faith he had in passionate people like you all. They're currently only about 12 people at the studio including HR and other staffers. This isn't a typical 50-100 man studio making games.
These guys just happened to have made a lot of games over the years cause he's been in business a really long time. They are self funded, debt free, and don't answer to anyone, and haven't for like 1-2 yrs. By supporting Wildman, you gain access to an incredibly powerful modding tool, not just for Wildman, but for ANY project you want to use it on, and it's not $1,200 for different add ons for like Iphone and Android, etc where they nickel and dime you.
In the end of the day, its just some guys working on making cool stuff and just wants to share it with the world. How many other places do you know where you can give feedback and for only like $10-20 gain alpha and beta access to a Triple A quality game and have your input listened to, and change the game? Chris has already taken several ideas from the community to implement into this project. He's a really stand up guy, and has even paid for his team out of pocket when they were going through times in the past. That's why I'm supporting Wildman.
He asks to collect 1.1 million, not cool it asks?
What is your point hating so much GPG?
Im not hate GPG, im voried about indiedb. Its not a trade market and not a trade platform, it home for indie devs how passionate to create games for soul not for the money.
In GPG work grate people, and i understand all troubles in hes work.
Chris Taylor never worked on his games to make money (in fact, he almost never gained royalties). Also he rejected many many offers to sell GPG ($20.000.000 for him alone), just because he is not interested in money at all.
He is creative and passionate about what he does, just look at the videos he made. He love video games, is always caring about his employes above anything else...
And he own GPG.
And he is working on Porject Mercury (a new kind of mod tool).
That's why GPG is an Indie developper that deserves its place on ModDB.
There are many interviews and podcasts out there about that.
Sorry but i see the whining not passion.

oh i see... you are fanboy
Oh I see, you are troll.
You lose! :p
I'm more of you did not expect.
All very valid points and I agree with them as well. It's a touchy subject for me and I'm perhaps a bit over protective of IndieDB and what it stands for (for me).
Sorry for any misunderstandings.
Nah, it's cool. Wouldn't be fun if there wasn't some controversy involved. ;P
