Fort Zombie is a focused-scope, casual RPG title in which the game world revolves around a single building – your fort – and the mission specific chunks of the small town that surrounds it. Instead of a major city or a vast countryside, player’s focus their efforts on building up a single structure, finding and training survivors, and venturing out into town looking for supplies.

Enjoy Fort Zombie and many other great games on Desura.
Fort zombie tries to do what all the zombie fans ever wanted but the tech problems, the bugs and the outdated graphics can scare off most gamers... its still quite fun
It's just an indie game, it isn't big company like EA or Activision Or Infinity Ward. Give'em a break, they also made the mount and blade series which is pretty awesome. You'll just have to wait ^_^
That's more of an excuse for lack of content than bugs, but still a valid excuse, since they have limited time, people and testers.
Also, these guys didn't make the Mount and Blade series, they made the Sword of the Stars series apparently. You must be reffering to Paradox, which is a publisher, not a developer.
Which does still stand for something(as I see it, Paradox publishes good games, even if they can be a bit broken, you'll have a good time with them, good example is Magicka, rather broken on release and still is occasionaly, but it's a great game)
Their time isn't really limited, they have no one pushing them to rush a game towards a release date.
In any case, as with mount and blade, there will always be some people who will make hi-res texture packs for the game. :D
@Lucifer:
True I guess, but they need to eat and if this is their Source of income... well the Publisher may provide some funding until release, but they can't delay the game forever, still time is indeed less of an issue I think.
i'd rather have a game released late than having a game at their deadline which is bugged and unplayable (like gothic 3).
Kerberos Productions developed this game. It's from the Sword of the Stars people, they're a much smaller team than the entirety of Paradox.
They are the Publishers of Mount&Blade.
Well, you can't say Mount & Blade has great graphics. It's really amazing though.
i hate how the mouse cursor shows up
i bought this. Great idea! Abysmal execution.
So yeah I would be enjoying it if it didn't crash on start. meh.
Okay my bad, I just had to download Microsoft.com but honestly, shouldn't desura have the power to install any packages required by the program?
It should I believe, you may wanna try and contact someone involved with Desura, from what I know of the ModDB/IndieDB/Desura people is that they're generally quite nice :)
Yeah we had it set to XNA 3.1 which we figured would be backwards compatible which it seems it is not. A fix will be coming soon, thanks for notifying us.
The dev team actually worked on Fort Zombie as a sort of engine showcase turned game project, while they were developing their next new title I believe...so it's not really a fully finished game, hence the lack of polish, but for such a small dev team to work on a simple game like this, it's not too bad an attempt (i've seen plenty worse).
Visually the game doesn't look TOO bad (for what it is), however the UI and controls are horrible, and will drive most people insane. Couple that with RPG elements affecting whether or not your crowbar physically going through a zombie's head will MISS, and it's a very frustrating experience.
The performance optimization in this game is almost non existant, and will make even the best computers chug from time to time, especially on the final day of the game when there are loads of zombies attacking your fort.
This game is alright for hardcore zombie enthusiasts wanting to try out the next ATTEMPT (even though it'd been out a while) at making a zombie game, and while this game has plenty of great concepts, it fails in it's execution (like most games now days).
All in all, I know I sound like i'm bagging the game out, but it's actually not too bad when you start appreciating it for what it is. I have spent many hours playing Fort Zombie, and have had plenty of fun, but that fun only lasts so long sadly :(
Good concept, bad execution, some fun to be had by hardcore zombie fans.
Engine showcase? It uses XNA doesn't it?
Even if it's XNA, XNA is NOT a game engine. It is a game framework. There is much work that must be done to get from XNA to a fully fledged game engine, therefore a showcase is still valid.
@Otreum - Have you ever played Morrowind? :P Same kind of combat system. Which is definitely annoying, but the game still managed to be amazing. Hopefully Fort Zombie is similar.
Well Morrowind is elementally an RPG game, mixing guns with stat based gameplay is nothing more than an annoyance. Morrowind was excusable.
If the controls weren't so bad for Fort Zombie, I probably wouldn't mind too much about missing enemies with swings.
The aiming system is funky, and difficult to explain, but it's 3rd person, you control the camera AND your aim simultaneously with a mouse cursor, and in order to move the camera, you must push towards the edge of the screen to rotate. While in theory it doesn't sound difficult, it can be EXTREMELY frustrating, especially when objects get in the way of the camera and cause your aim to start spazzing out when you have zombies literally charging you way (the grid iron zombie).
You do eventually get used to the controls and learn how to work with it, but even after playing the game for days, you will still find yourself frustrated because that doorway managed to get you killed after a successful day looking in town for weapons.
One more thing, and this annoyed me, was the difficulty levels.
Easy was too easy, and the final battle was far too small for the amount of time spent building up my fort.
Normal was good in the streets, however the final battle once again was very "meh".
Hard was hard, but in a frustrating way, not an enjoyable way. And was the only difficulty with a final battle worth fighting.
Also, you cannot play all forts on all difficulties, there are 3 forts/buildings, each which are assigned to a difficulty. You cannot play the police station on hard mode for example, even though the Police station fort is fun to barricade.
DO WANT. this game looks pretty rad
THis game could be epic, but it's sooo hard (but, i just begin, it's maybe normal. But i don't know if i will continue, i can't survive before reaching the fort x))
This game wasn't made by the same people from Mount and Blade....they only have the same PUBLISHERS. There's a difference.
I'd play it maybe if it was first person, I don't like 3rd person games
I could say "don't rate the game until you try it", but taking that the game doesn't have a demo, it's a pretty dumb thing to say.
I understand it's an indie trailer, it doesn't have to be perfect.
But please, never show low framerate in a trailer.
Why no steam?
Because apparently Steam doesn't take as many broken games as they usually did
It doesn't really get any easier :P
(uh...that was supposed to be a reply to EvilRunner)
