Welcome to a new article for The Library of Babel: The Game. We haven't published a new article in some time so we decided to create one just dedicated to our amazing artist and her amazing work. (That she is totally doing out of her own will)

The first thing we needed to design for the game was the place where it would be set. There are three main scenes that the player can explore (and an extra one later in the game). These are the reception, the office and the main room.

Every one of these places is special in its own right and will be talked about individually.

Firstly the office room, the importance of this room comes from it being the first thing the player (and anyone walking into the library) will see. It includes (as most receptions do) a sitting area that the player can turn to if the game ever feels too scary and a reception area, including the receptionist´s desk and the chairs.

There are also smaller details that help fill the room but are equally as important. Like the letters, placed on top of the table that will teach the player how to navigate the library and the paintings placed on the walls that, if you look for it, might be hiding some mysterious secrets.

After seeing the reception room we can move to the office room

This is one of the rooms that the player will visit the least amount of times, (unless they have some unhealthy attraction towards it) as it is only a stepping stone towards understanding the game´s main mechanics.

Still, this office is the most important when it comes to worldbuilding. The rulers of the library used to spend most of their time here and our artist tried to show that in this level. You can see the neatly organized bookshelf in the background and a table with books that may (or may not) be important to the story.

After leaving the office and entering its only door, the player will find the most important room in the library, the main room, where the fountain of knowledge is located (that totally didn't make our artist cry because the perspective was always wrong).

This place is where the player is supposed to spend the most time, so our artist dedicated the most amount of time and skills to this one. Because of this, if you look in the right places you will be able to find all types of easter eggs and details that will help you complete the story.

The main things that can be found here are doors and stairs (pls don't mention doors or stairs in front of the artist or she might cry). There are a total of six doors and six stairs, although only three of each can be seen in the world. There is also the grandiose fountain right in the middle and plants to keep the place lively.

Now that you have seen all the rooms it's time to show you what the final art looked like.

These works are still unfinished and there are still a lot of details to work on however, we feel that the work so far has been going really well.

To finish this post we wanna leave you a comment from our artist about how the project has been going. Please be kind to her, she easily gets scared and might bite.
