My name is Rob and I started designing and developing games in 2007. I started my Indie studio, Vital Games, in 2011 and haven't looked back. I have created and released 3 mobile games on Android and iOS and have just finished developing my fourth game, Gene.
Oh. My. God. I naively thought, ‘let’s do another tech demo showing free play mode and just how much game play you can get from Gene’.
Chose a level and whilst playing through it, I find my vertical moving platforms were missing. This is a game breaker. Without those platforms you cannot reach the rest of the platforms and play through the game. Suddenly I felt sick to my stomach to think my game is broken with less than a week to release.
An hour later and I have found the problem. It was a Game Maker update. I had to turn off short circuit evaluations – pleeeease be careful if you are using this function. Turned it off and all returned to normal. Thank God.Back on course for release on 31st January. Pending any further disasters.

This is the first game that I have used marketing techniques for. It has been a real eye opener to how much time should be set aside for marketing and not just concentrating on making the game - getting the game complete is only half the battle. I've found some great advise on essential marketing tools and tips and hope to make Gene marketable to the masses!
