Founded in 1996, Firaxis Games is a world renowned game development studio with an unwavering mission to "build games that stand the test of time". The name Firaxis is a fusion of "fiery" and "axis", communicating the company's dynamic process of game development resulting in the creation of groundbreaking titles that deliver unparalleled gameplay and endless fun to millions of gamers around the globe. Under the creative direction of industry legend Sid Meier, Firaxis has released dozens of hit games on multiple platforms and is recognized as an industry leader in game development.

Firaxis has created many blockbuster titles, including; Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Sid Meier's Gettysburg!, Sid Meier's Civilization III Series, Sid Meier's SimGolf, Sid Meier's Pirates (PC, Xbox and PSP), Sid Meier's Civilization IV series (including Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization), Sid Meier's Railroads!, and most recently, Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution (Xbox360, PS3, DS). The titles have sold millions of copies worldwide and garnered hundreds of industry awards.

A company is only as good as the people who are a part of it: the 130 highly talented folks who make our games are responsible for the many awards we’ve received and enjoy giving back to the community through various volunteer activities; Firaxis management has received numerous awards for innovation and industry service - Sid Meier, Firaxis' Director of Creative Development, has received virtually all of the industry's top awards landing him in the 2008 Guinness World Records for the most videogame awards received in the history of the industry. In addition, Sid has been inducted into the Computer Museum of America Hall of Fame, and the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame for lifetime achievement in computer gaming. Steve Martin, President of Firaxis, was honored by Baltimore Business Journal in 2004 as one of the region’s top young executives.

Firaxis is recognized industry-wide for a progressive culture that supports the emergence of new talent. Central to this success is an "iterative" design process in which all team-members contribute to the game's design.

In 2005, Firaxis was acquired by Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., joining the 2K Games publishing label, a wholly owned subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive. Under the creative direction of resident guru Sid Meier, Firaxis will continue to deliver award winning gameplay experiences to players around the world on PC, console and handheld platforms.
