Gold Build from the final week of development for our game development course
In the past few days, we’ve undergone the final phase of development for our upcoming showcase. Due to time constraints, we weren’t able to make all of the changes we wanted to, but have made a few quality of life changes. Firstly, the tutorial room is smaller, and some of the lines in the tutorial have been compressed into one to make it slightly shorter, as we received a number of complaints from play testers regarding the length of tutorial and size of the room. Additionally, there is now a field of view increase when you start sprinting and a corresponding decrease when returning to walking, as a couple of play testers commented immediately on the fact that it would make the game feel much better, which we wholeheartedly agreed with. We also saw from many players that there was confusion regarding the swing-poke interaction, and realized it wasn’t properly working in the first place, so we made some changes to how it works, no longer stunning the poking player but rather increasing damage, as well as increasing the consistency of the interaction occurring. Finally, we are super excited to announce that we have music, so you’ve got something to listen to as you whack your friend repeatedly.
We may have more updates to come in the future, but we’ll be taking a break to figure out the direction we want to go with it if we do so. Until then, we hope you enjoy!
