Infiltrate enemy bases, knock out or avoid the guards, complete your objectives, and climb or row back to safety to report to your captain.

An ever-growing faction of warriors called the scarves is clamoring the lands. Your home town is the last bastion of its continent still standing to fight them. The town's main defense lies it's pneumatic weapons, and your crew has been sent across seas to find a working compressor.

  • The Early Access version has 3-4 hours of content in 3 missions
  • sneak, climb, fight, row, and explore derelict environments
  • old school stealth experience with little hand holding with indicators
  • A story centered around survival and connivery, with dialog that conforms to player's actions
  • Open environments with a tense mood fortified by the sound track

Sneaking

In the dark corridors, light is both your enemy and friend. Guards have a lightness-based sight and hearing.

Non-lethal takedowns

To render enemies unconscious, you can jump on their backs, sneak up to them, or use doze grenades to knock them out from the distance. Just remember to hide the bodies.

Combat

When stealth fails, it's time to resort to the tools found scattered around in levels. Battles in Gust of Wind are hectic and usually end quickly. In open spaces, there may be room to dodge roll and jump out of the enemy's reach, in cramped corridors you better have a more effective weapon than the opponent. Dual wielding is also a good way to get an upper hand.

Freedom of movement

The small but open sandbox environments often have many routes to completing an objective. Climb elements like ladders, poles and ropes to stay out of sight or reach, and use rowboats for faster movement across the waters.

Gadgets

In addition to weapons and carriable light sources, there are also gadgets like grappling hooks and cranes that can provide an alternative way in.

Gust Of Wind is set in a rusted, post-apocalyptic world. You play as the stealth expert of a crew of seagulls. Their Home Town is at war with a faction called the "scarves" and they've been sent across seas to scavenge equipment to help its defenses.

The guards standing and patrolling the corridors have a lightness-based sight that encourages staying in shadows and being wary of their torches.

Sneaking with light feet and opening doors slowly is also preferrable, since sleeping guards may wake up any time.

Enemies can be taken out non-lethally with a rear-naked choke and "doze grenades".

When all else fails, you can also resort to melee combat.

Between the missions, there are sections with dialog, giving you some context of the situations, as well as uncovering the background stories of some of your crewmates.

If you feel like sneaking in the shadows of old mines with a constant sense of danger, dreading the squeal of an over-enthusiastic guard taking heed of you, or following a story centered around survival and connivery, please take a look at the demo or Early Access version of Gust of Wind available on Steam: Store.steampowered.com

Other Tutorial

I've been focusing on optimizations quite a lot since this game's EA release half a year ago, and wrote a post describing some of the methods I've used.
