Hearts of Oak: Conquest of the Seas is a non-commercial PC game being developed by PiratesAhoy!, and is to become the historical seafaring game to end them all! Fun, realistic gameplay on land and at sea, set during the Age of Sail, will provide extensive free play, exciting scripted storylines and intense multiplayer scenarios.
It has been a while since we posted new development screenshots. But that is not for lack of progress! Over the next week or so, we will be posting what we have accomplished lately.

Almost one month ago, our lead developer started experimenting with large waves. These two pictures show the initial tests. We have gotten a lot further since!
In my humble opinion, I would say that the waves are way to big. However, if they're supposed to be an exception (during a storm etc.) then I think it's acceptable.
I get what you are getting at, but waves during a big storm can be as tall as a ship itself! But you are right, those waves would cause smaller waves around it to be kind of absorbed into it, making one big wave instead of a wobbly bobbly wave collection. But to be honest, the work that you guys are showing here is incredible, I mean look at that ship! It's being hurled into the air by those big and honking waves! Great job!
I'd have to assume that they only made them this large for testing and display purposes and they'll be more reasonable in-game.
You are most definitely correct! These were pictures from a test to see how far we could go. Completely over-the-top and the ship was bouncing around like mad. Quite entertaining, really! :-P
This was a fun test to see if we could make the waves large (and slow) and to also see if the character controller was going to stay 'attached' to the vessel so the player didn't get tossed off every time the boat moved. Now, granted, I have been in seas pretty reminiscent of these, so in reality they can happen!
