How do you fix an issue where Star wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and any mod for it is black and white since a while back?

It used to work well on my computer up until like 3 years ago when all of a sudden the game became black and white after an update. And now whenever I install the base-game it's black and white.

There is no more development, unless someone else will port this mod to Total War: Rome Remastered.

The reason it was made for RTW: Alexander instead of Medieval II: Total War - Kingdoms (which is the game I do prefer) is because Dagovax Sirrianus only plays and mod Rome and now Rome Remastered - and he doesn't even own Medieval 2 - I would have personally wanted Med2 over RTW but he is the guy who did all the difficult stuff with new animations, rigging of the models and so on, without him we wouldn't have gotten the first 3 releases. He doesn't mod Medieval 2 so that's why.

I don't know, I've had the issue of not being able to run M2TWEOP on some computers, and on others it worked fine.

I do think that the developers on the link in the article are the ones who can help you, as I didn't develop the tool. So i don't have the answers to why it has issues on some computers.

I do recall I got some advice from there or links to files I needed to download to update the DirectX or the Microsoft drivers or something.

So it's probably a cause of outdated Microsoft DirectX drivers or something similar.

The 4gb patch and the Large address aware patch are essentially the same, so I'm guessing your issue is one of the other mentioned issues.

It's not very helpful to post what you just posted..

First of all you don't need to first play custom battles as that issue was solved long ago.

2nd have you patched the kingdoms.exe and the medieval2.exe with the 4gb patch or the large address aware patch?

Are you using the M2TWEOP.exe?

Have you disabled the advisor in the faction selection screen?

Do you have the FMV video background?

If you have a 2D picture background instead then you'd also need to replace your configuration.cfg file in the main Medieval 2 folder with the one on this page.

Edit: I've tested the mod after your post and I had no issues, so if it doesn't work on your end it's not an issue for everyone - so it must be your installation, or you missing one of the above steps.

On Windows 10 or 11 it's not possible to use the .bat-file with this mod, you'd need a Windows 7 or older for that as all the giants and spiders will crash on modern systems without the M2TWEOP.exe.

If you can't progress through the faction selection screen then I'm guessing you haven't patched the medieval2.exe and the kingdoms.exe with the 4gb patch or the large address aware patch? They're also mandatory.

The M2TWEOP.exe can randomly crash at start-up but the solution is to try again. If it happens many times in a row you might be missing a .dll-file or something for the tool to run.

I do believe that those got removed by the original creator when he gave them their new HD roster, so the mechs are unique to the Classic Ultimate submod.

There is a picture on how to solve that issue in the article of Warcraft: Total War, or Hyrule Total War: Classic Ultimate.

Check those pages for the solution.

A cleaner package?

I included everything because players usually won't be able to handle downloading the 4gb patch from one location, the M2TWEOP.exe from a 2nd location and the Large Address Aware Patch (which isn't required if the game has been patched with the 4gb patch - as they're essentially the same patch) from a third location.

So no, there is no cleaner package.

Those files are required, they're mandatory - they're no longer optional for the mod - the mod will crash a lot without those files. Without the patch any mod using HD-models will crash, and without the M2TWEOP.exe the giants will crash, as will the spiders.

The M2TWEOP.exe might be optional for some mods, but for Hyrule it's required if you don't want all the giants and spiders to constantly crash on Windows 10 and 11.

If you by "cleaner" package meant a package with the old executable.bat-file then no, I deliberately removed that file because the new .exe is mandatory. In other mods that don't have giants and spiders it might be optional.

The corrected voices are for the factions not using custom accents, so for example the Scourge on the campaign map will not have Elven Ranger voices anymore for their generals, but for the factions using custom accents they will still be using those voices depending on the dread and/or chivalry of the general. Chivalry gives a male voice and dread gives the Sylvannas Elven Ranger voice, but this is for the Sindorei accent - it's in use by the Forsaken, so there is a risk that Forsaken units on the map will have the wrong voices.

In battle however everything is now fixed, except for the general's bodyguard unit - these are always male for the Sindorei accent, always female for the Kaldorei, always male for the Lordaeron accent - but individual units have been fixed.

An example is that the Medusa Matriarchs bodyguard of the Naga do have female voices in custom battle (fixed) but if they're the general's bodyguard in the campaign they will have the male voice because the general is Kael'Thas - we don't know how to change voices of the general's bodyguard.

We do only have custom voices for the Sindorei, Kaldorei and Lordaeron - everyone else either shares or has theirs disabled. No other factions have been finished, the mod is still a WIP. And as I didn't do the voices it's not really up to me to add more, but I may in the future.

I preferred silence over vanilla med2 voices, like in Hyrule: Total War.

3. The Tauren building is only useable in Grimtotem Tauren regions, as the Grimtotem tauren had an alliance with the Forsaken - the way mercs work in Medieval 2 is that they can be divided between religions, not between factions, so while the Forsaken is the undeath faction who would recruit Grimtotems according to lore (due to the alliance) it became the Scourge in the mod because the Scourge in lore held Razorfen Dawns - the Quilboar area next to the Grimtotem lands.

I wanted all the NPC-units or "Minor Faction" units to be mercs one way or another- and as the goal of the Grimtotem Tauren is to kill everyone, they're mercs for the undeath religion.

The ordinary Tauren are different, and are still unique to the Shamanitic religion (Horde, Dark Horde and Trade Coalition) as mercs, while the Horde and the Dark Horde can recruit them as regular units, but the Dark Horde only from Kalimdor regions, and the Horde from everywhere.

So the undead only have access to the Grimtotems, not the ordinary Taurens - and only from their few areas in kalimdor.

4. No, the voices have been fixed- re-download the mod to fix that.

5.The ancillaries and artifacts were the work of user Thrugg, and when I added his new traits and ancillaries including new family members back in 2022 something went wrong and the game started to crash all the time at turn 12 with the Trade Coalition, this happened in my let's play as the faction, and I solved it the only way I knew of, by disabling every trigger for traits, which rendered all the traits non-functional in the mod. As such the old version you want back had non-working traits and characters would never earn any traits, adopted generals would lack traits entirely..

Now, one of the main reasons for me updating the mod was my disappointment with version 2.3 not having functional traits...

So I went back to my very old May 2021 backup and re-worked it from scratch re-doing all the changes since May 2021 again..

And no, this time I didn't add Thruggs new ancillaries, traits or family members - so they're not included - but instead we have a stable mod with working traits and ancillaries.

I'm not gonna put the old version up again with the non-functional traits.

Hello, I have re-uploaded the mod a couple of hours ago, and that version fixed the undead voices so I don't know why you are still playing the April 26th, 2024 release. I've already written that the voices were unfinished and I released it anyway. In the new upload from abour 13 hours ago those voices were fixed!..

Then about your critiques:

1. There is a hardcoded limit of 500 units in Medieval 2: Total War - Kingdoms, this matters to all the units in the Export_Descr_Units-file - including strat-model ship entries, so by removing the majority of the ships from the game (16) and letting all the factions share the "Goblin Submarine" with the exception of the Naga who have a Kraken, I've instead opened up 16 slots for new battle-models - wheter it be heroes in custom battles (I've added 12) or new units (I've added 6) - Now this count is higher than 16 right? Yes, that's because I've also removed three Dwarven Siege Engines.

If you wonder why I removed all those ships? Because I find heroes in custom battle and new units more interesting, especially since the strat-model ships all had the same stats, like for example the Orc Destroyer, the Elven Destroyer and the Undead Destroyer had the exact same stats - the only difference being the name, so instead of having ships with unique names on the map I wanted heroes in custom, or new battle-units - the ships all were the same, each faction having a transport, a galleon, a destroyer and a battleship.. Only the Naga ships were different. So instead of wasting battle-model entries in the EDU-file on clones of ships I figured that all could use the Goblin Submarine. Obviously I didn't care about ship variety in names, and the Naga still has the Kraken- they're the only faction who needed a unique ship.

2. There were undead Blood Elves in the Scourge called the "Bloodfallen", these Blood Elves would become Death Knights of the Lich King. I didn't add a new unit entry, but instead used the same unit as for the Blood Elves and the High Elves - the Brightwing Vindicators - but in battle they do have a UNIQUE undead skin, when you recruit the Elven Rangers as mercs they have the card of the alive unit - but as soon as they're hired you see that the card will turn black - it's a undead skin. The Vindicators is a new regular unit instead - they do hire Undead Elven Rangers in the Elven lands, sometimes you'd need to start a battle to see the difference, or hire the unit - only after the unit has been hired will you be able to see the Scourge-unique card. Before they're hired they're using the Elven card which might trick you into thinking they have alive Elves. They don't. It is lore-accurate that the Scourge had Bloodfallen Elves, and no there isn't enough room to add a unique unit entry with a different name - but for the Scourge they're basically the Bloodfallen but shares the Vindicator name because I'm at the 500 unit limit.

It's the same installation, if it doesn't run you'd always need to tell me what the issue is, when does it crash, where in the game or is it when you start it up, saying that it gives you the "Uh Oh"-message tells me nothing- that's a generic message that happens whenever any mod crashes no matter the reason for said crash.

All it tells me is that the game crashed, it doesn't tell me why it crashed.

Also, you shouldn't need to re-install medieval 2 ever as suggested by the other user, but you do need to patch the medieval2.exe and the kingdoms.exe with the 4gb patch, and you do need to launch the mod using the M2TWEOP.exe, and you also will need to disable the advisor in the faction selection screen before starting any campaign and finally you'd need to possibly replace your vanilla medieval2 preferences.txt file with the one I have uploaded on this page, as I needed to do this otherwise the background was a 2D picture instead of the FMV and the game would probably crash in the campaign.

This one is way more stable, but the submod has some different features - try both - but if you don't want any post-battle CTD this one is the only option.

Classic doesn't crash often, but it has these annoying post-battle crashes that happens after battles, something HTW 4.7 doesn't have.

Yes, as I wrote in my longer answer that's an unfinished area of the mod, and a result of the traits working in the new version, as the custom female Elven voices on the campaign map are connected to dread - any unit with dread will get that voice, if they share the Sindorei accent, and I handed all the factions custom accents to give them the custom narrator, not thinking about the effects on the map.

You will never have to uninstall medieval 2 to install a mod.

However, this new version shouldn't be copy/pasted over the old verison..

You should delete the old warcraft version and copy/paste this when the other version is removed from the same place prior to you copying the new version.

It should replace the old, but not by overwriting it - it's a full upload so the old version should simply be deleted.

The new version fixes a bunch of bugs in the mod, and overwriting files will probably lead to bugs still remaining.
