Hey there! Welcome to this week's roundup of the YouTube, where we covered one whole new world of a total conversion and a stylistically faithful bit of innovation for DOOM!
Note: This week will be the last week we post an IndieDB short for the foreseeable future. We've finished covering our backlog of indies featured in last years IOTY awards (and then a few extras from indies who submitted trailers in the past) and the nature of indie games VS mods makes them a lot less convenient to cover in longer-form playthrough vids. We're planning to resume the shorts schedule after the New Year, utilising features from 2022's IOTY to maintain the content schedule. That all being said, we could also pursue playthrough content if there was demand for it - if you have any thoughts on this, let us know in the comments down below!
Monday - Playthrough - Enderal
The world of Elder Scrolls is huge, but what's larger is the modding potential consistently provided by Bethesda's fantasy RPG franchise; modders have been running with it for decades. Enderal is a highlight of an already remarkable modding scene, transforming Skyrim into a whole new land with its own story and mysteries to solve. Following from the equally impressive Nehrim, it truly is a world of its own.
Inspired by classic RPG farming games of the bygone 16-bit era, Tierva is a modernized interpretation built in the Unreal Engine 4 with a colorful stylized 3D world. You've just moved into your very own farm. Take care of your new land, raise animals, expand your farm and explore the surrounding world. Meet the people of a welcoming nearby village and aid the townsfolk so they can prosper and grow as well.
DOOM's 2.5D graphical style is iconic to that early era of FPS, and a gold mine for traditional 2D artists looking to make some great stylised stuff. Sourceports have had some form of 3D or another for years now, but one modder took a more unique approach with Voxel DOOM, which both preserves the original DOOM art style whilst giving it a lick of that elusive 3rd dimensional goodness.
