We're a team of three people working on our first 2D game project: Loowa.
We've just added our upcoming game Loowa to IndieBD's database:
It's a very important step in our long journey! More to come soon, stay tuned!

This week we focused on puzzle definition, an essential part of level design (in the next few weeks, I'll write more about this essential part of game design!).
Loowa's game developer, Carolina, also started testing one of our game mechanics, a sort of "detective mode" that gives players clues when they're having difficulty solving a puzzle. We're still at the beginning of the pre-production stage, so it will probably evolve into something quite different when we use the actual puzzles, but we're all very proud of our first test:
What do you think? Any comments or suggestions? We're still learning, so any input is welcome.
Since Joana is hard at work on the game's mockup, we'll keep you posted. Stay tuned!

Now that we have defined Loowa's concept, our game artist, Joana, has been hard at work on art style tests. We're envisioning Loowa with a style between flat art and a slightly realistic art style. Our goal is to create a game with simple and somewhat minimalistic but beautiful art.
Here's a sneak peek of some of the tests:
More to come soon. Stay tuned!

This past week has been decisive for Loowa, since we have been developing the game's concept and core idea. Our main struggle is usually this part of the process — selecting a good idea and turning it into a great concept that matches the needs and wants of our target audience.
We had to change and reinvent narrative and mechanic elements a few times due to feedback and critiques, but we are proud to say that Loowa has been approved and we have moved on to the Pre-Production phase. Things are much clearer now and we know where we want to take Loowa.
Concept art is in the oven and programming tests are in the making. This week's main focus will be art style studies, game mechanic tests and the creation of personas.
We'll post soon with more information about Loowa and this whole adventure.
Stay tuned!

After a few bumps in the road during our search for an original and relatable game idea and consequent struggle with a game concept definition, we are happy to write that we have finally defined our upcoming game. As you might have figured out by now, the game will be called “Loowa” and it will be a side-scrolling platformer:
Loowa is the opposite of Lucas. When Lucas is scared, Loowa is brave. When Lucas is feeling cornered and wants to hide, Loowa is capable of moving forward. In a place where things aren't what they seem and danger lurks in the shadows, Loowa is on the run, trying to reach Sanctuary, and Lucas will go along for the ride!
Are you intrigued? Stay tuned!
